Good morning everyone....I can't believe it's Thursday already.  Yesterday I went for a hike with my friends JD and CS, we hiked/walked a Lakeside trail, and it was so beautiful, the trees all white.

DH was planning on joining us, but he picked up a cold, so stayed home to hopefully recover before he goes back to work next week.  So glad he didn't get sick when he was doing his training, because then he wouldn't be back to us as fast.
It's another cold day today, but looks like the sun will make an appearance again today.

Nov 26 2012 ~ Monday

Hello and welcome to a new week of blogs....=)

It's a beautiful day in Alaska today, woke up to -5 c, it was a cold walk to the bus stop and back, DD and I decided to walk the lake this am....seems shorter.

DH headed to work today then he has a few off....it's going to be great with only one car, the Pathfinder's on the road....=(  DH is looking to get a new car....first needs to do some test driving...etc, but is looking at getting a Subaru WRX.

On the weekend DS's team tied for 3-4th and Veronica's team came in 2nd, so I'm glad to take a break from hockey for the next few days.

We also went to Janet and Marc's house for the 100th Grey Cup it was on TV here so they had a party, Toronto ended up winning.

Well I have more butter softening to make more shortbread the two batches I made are gone...or was it three batches...I don't know...but it's good let me tell you.

Well off to watch some of the Christmas movies I have on the DVR and do some crocheting...I'm making headbands now.  have a great day

Hockey and more hockey....DS played at 8:15am BB arena, then DD played at 10:45am the Mac arena then DD had a Craft Time with the Canadian's kids, 3:30pm then DD had another hockey game at 8:15pm....

So tomorrow everything starts at 2pm....Well DD plays at 2:00pm, DS plays at 2:30pm and there's a Grey Cup party at 2 as well...so another busy day on the home front...ALASKA...

Northern Lights came out last night for a show, and tonight it's supposed to happen but it's not there yet.  Well I'm heading to bed....good night all....

PS Homestead, I will see you one of these nights I'm just to sleepy...(Canadian Girls are going to the Homestead Bar) Yawn...good night to you all.

Nov 23 2012 ~ Black Friday here in Alaska

Hi everyone, it's 6:26am and we are up getting ready for DS's hockey, had a very nice US Thanksgiving dinner with friends last night, thank you Jen and Steve for the invite.  We did not take part in any of the Black Friday Shopping, heading to bed early.  Today we have another busy day of hockey DS then two games for DD.

oh ya...took Shortbread to the dinner and it was a hit, so here's the recipe if your interested....yum!!

Shortbread

1 lb Butter (softened)

1 cup berry sugar

cream together then add

4 1/2 cups of Flour

Mix with blender or by hand, will be crumble, then

use hands and knead together, I didn't have to add more flour,

until I flattened the dough and cut into cookies, then use fork to put holes in cookies before baking.

300 degrees for 30 minutes or until golden brown.

Also I make:

Whipped Shortbread

1 tsp Vanilla

1 lb butter (softened)

1 cup icing sugar

1/2 cup cornstarch

3 cups flour

Whip with blender, then drop onto cookie sheet,

and top with a cherry (candied...I usually cut one in half.. in Canada they come red or green)

350 degrees for 15 minutes

Nov 21 2012 ~ Happy Thanksgiving

Hi Everyone, it's the day before American Thanksgiving, today I made more shortbread and cleaned the house a little.  We have hockey tomorrow, then we head to the airport to pick up DH....happy happy happy.  We are heading over to our neighbors, Jen and Steve's house for dinner, I made Mashed Potatoes tonight that I'm going to put in my slow cooker...hopefully they get warm enough, they say to warm for 45min in the oven....wonder how the slow cooker will do.  I guess we will find out.
It's really cold today, DH is going to freeze when he gets home tomorrow.  Seems like the furnace has been running all day.

On Friday we may stop in to see if we can get any deals, but because the kids are in the hockey tournaments we will miss out of all the hustle and bustle....=) but bring on the Holiday season, seems like another holiday fast approaches.  Bonus about Alaska...we will be having a white Christmas....=) can't wait.

Nov 20 2012 ~ Happy Happy Dance

Tuesday Nov 20 2012 we are doing a happy dance here, DH just send a message saying he passed his final flight and will be home, maybe Thursday.....I'm super excited....=) can't wait to be under one roof again.

It's cold today, clear, and it's going to be cold for the next few days, the kids have school tomorrow then off for Thanksgiving.

Nov 19 2012 ~ Monday

Hi Everyone, can't believe it's Monday again, life is busy and it's only going to get busier as the Holiday's approach.  Friday I went for a hike with the Canadians, it was a cold up hill hike but the views made it all worth it. Went with Elaine, Mary Lynn, Sabin and Me.

Then later I went to a Sushi Cooking class with the Canadian Ladies, lots of fun....=)

Saturday DD and I went to A Canadian birthday for 2 boys turning 2 yrs old and one boy turning 1yrs old.

Then later on Saturday we went to the Canadian Teen Group Murder Mystery, it was lots of fun....=)

Then about 3:30am, DD started getting sick....=( she didn't feel great until about 7pm, Sunday.

So it's a new short week because American Thanksgiving is Thursday, and so kids are off Thursday and Friday and are both in a hockey tournament.

Also today I made a batch of Short Bread and they turned out great...have to get some more butter and flour and will make another batch or two and hide them, until Christmas.  I finished my Christmas cards as well today....=)  Living here in Alaska sure make it feel like Christmas that's for sure....we don't have to dream of a White Christmas this year...it's here...=)

Nov 14 2012~ Wednesday

Woke up to snow today, took DS to the bus stop, then came home and shoveled the driveway. I went for a walk/ hike with Mary Lynn, Janet, Colleen, Genevieve, Sue and I ... And their dogs.
We walked for 2 hours, then stopped back at Mary Lynn's house for a yummy bowl of chili.
Stopped at Walmart, to get a few skeins of thread. Came home and made chicken noodle soup in the crock pot.
Later DS went out and shoveled some of the rink....I ended up doing the rest, then we went to hockey practice, for DS.  I heard some news about his missing jersey, I guess the lady that ordered them missed his, and she has reordered it, as for the other two on the team they don't know where they are....=( So I'm happy about that.
Well that was Wednesday in  a nut shell...=)

Nov 13 2012 ~ Tuesday

Good morning,
Yesterday was a great work out of a day, I worked all morning on the ice rink, I shoveled the ice with my new shovel, then I hot mopped the ice. Hot mopping is using a bucket of hot water and then mopping the hot water onto the ice. After maybe 8 trips into the house for hot water.
Then I walked down the other end of the lake, I saw people ice fishing, there was a guy and his dog, with a depth finder, I could see the fish coming by this fishing hook, he told me there was an eagle over by the boat launch. So I headed that way, a lady and man fishing in two different fishing holes. I talked to the lady and she said the eagle was trying to get their fish. He was pretty tame there was a couple taking pictures of the eagle. So I headed home to get my camera.

I didn't take any pictures with my iPhone of the eagle, so I will post some pictures later .

Today I'm heading for coffee, with Canadian ladies, missing Zumba because I have a sore back, and the shine maybe gone.

Nov 10 2012 ~ Saturday

Hi everyone, another weekend in Alaska, we had a nice sleep in to about 8:30am, got up had breaky and then got caught up on some of our DVR'd shows.  Before we knew it, it was time to head out for DS's hockey.  They played at the Subway arena, first time going to this arena...thank god for the GPS it took us right there...I had an idea of the area because the Zoo isn't to far from there.
They lost again, but didn't finish the last period, because one of the players on DS's team ended up getting a pretty bad concussion, and had to be taken away be the ambulance.  Not good.  so they lost 2-0.  DS still hasn't got his team Jersey....it's a big problem...3 on his team don't have theirs yet.

We are just having a relaxing night getting ready for a Hockey practice, Remembrance Day...I might not have enough time to make to the ceremony, but I remember, and will have my silent time at 11am and I'm wearing my poppy.  Then DD has a hockey game down town at 1:30pm.  And that takes up another weekend.  Time is flying by.

Okay so I should really start my Christmas cards...=) have a great rest of the weekend

Hi it's me again...=)

Just got back from a great hike, http://dnr.alaska.gov/parks/aspunits/trails/ptarvly.htm, with my Canadian's...we had Janet, Marc and their dog Diesel, and Sylvie & Sabin and Mary Lynn and I.  It wasn't as cold as Wednesday's hike.  We went up a lot of hills, but it was great on the way back...except for the big hill at the end.  I lost my WinterTack....=(  not sure where...but didn't want to go back to find it....=(

Well I'm cold off to get warmed up...have a great day all...=)

Good morning, I'm up and ready for another day .... DS didn't want to go to school, and at just a couple of minute wait at the bus stop before the bus came....we have to leave a bit earlier.

Here's a little video for you.....

Last night we had Pizza for DS's birthday dinner, and then carrot cake with cream cheese icing...yummy.

Also I flooded the lake rink, with two garden hoses joined because it's pretty far from the house to the lake.  Not sure how it turned out, there was a skim of snow all over the ice.  We may have to hot mop it.  And the Weatherman is calling for 5 inches of snow next week...that's going to mess up our ice...so I will be out there clearing I'm sure when the kids are at school.

Hi everyone just wanted to wish my brother a Happy Birthday, miss you.

So I'm  going to try and do video blogging...I will add my first one to this blog...I used my Kodak camera, but may have to use my iphone....then I can edit the videos...so I will see how it goes....let me now what you think.....=)

 okay so this was out on the ice rink later today....sorry for it being sideways...I did it with the iphone...so maybe I will use the camera instead....have a good night everyone...so some how it is turned around with out doing anything....great!!

ps DH finished flight number 10.....yippy....=)

Nov 5 2012 ~ another Monday

So it was a busy weekend here in Alaska, Friday we went to our friends house for a pot luck dinner, then Saturday DD had her first hockey game, they played great it was an even hockey game, ending in a lose for the Mustangs 3-2.  Then Saturday night I went to an 80's Halloween party at our friends house, had so much fun....wasn't happy they made me, (I tired to leave but couldn't because some one was parked behind me....) do a dance off with a friend....on the xbox...I don't like to dance..(this white girl can't dance or sing)..any how I did it and it sucked the big one...and that's why I don't do dancing and karaoke I just can't...that's all there is to it.

We set the clocks back 1 hour, so it was nice to have a bit more sleep, I didn't drink so was just a bit tired.  The kids both had a hockey game on Sunday, DS in Anchorage and DD in Wasilla, it was the perfect time for each I had enough time to drive both kids...=)  DS's team lost and DD's team won.

So today there's nothing planned, I need to clean the house, and that's about it.. Have a great day

Nov 2 2012 ~ Friday

So didn't write about yesterday, but I did do Zumba, went out for lunch with the Canadian Ladies, made a new snow shovel thing....and the used to clear more snow off the rink area on the lake.  I wore my new (second hand) skates, and I got a blister on my foot... =(

So today I was to go on a hike with the Canadian Ladies....so had to cancel my foot wouldn't make the 3-4 hour hike...I'm so bummed....if it's not one thing it's another...grrr

Tonight we are going to our neighbors Sarah and Will's for a pot luck.  I guess it's our turn to host it next....hopefully DH will be home soon and then we can have a party.  My have to have a skating party....the weather man is calling for snow, so hopefully we can keep the ice clear and in good shape.

We may also have to figure out how to get light out at the lake...I will be thinking about this.

It's 9:01am and the sun still hasn't come up, it's hard to tell exactly with the big mountain, but the days are getting longer.  This weekend the clocks fall back....so that will be nice to get an extra hour of sleep.

Well off to do some Crocheting, making a couple hats for some birthday's coming up...then have to make some headbands....bye for now
