Sept 15 2016

Another month as passed here in Alaska, can't believe this is our last year.  I am trying to make a list of things we still want to do.  It doesn't feel like it's been 4 yrs here, time seems to be flying by.
Everyone that has been posted back to the Mother Land (Canada) has said you are going to miss this great state.  I feel like my Canada isn't to much different then Alaska.....I'm from BC and we have mountains, glaciers, salmon...etc....but BC has rain (and a lot of it) so that being said I will miss our little piece of heaven.
Aug 26 2016-So hubby and I did a Zip-lining trip with our Canadian friends, that was so much fun.....we left our place to drive to the Denali Main Park Entrance, at O dark early, we saw 8 Moose, and the Great One...Denali (Mt McKinley).  The drive didn't seem to long with us all excited for our adventure, I don't think many of us had done Zip lining before, there was 8 of us total.  We meet the other group at the Zip Line building, early of course....=) We signed in and then had to wait for the tour to start.  So we walked about looking at the gift shops.  I bought a pair of mitts for my christmas tree...because I have been looking for a pair that looked simalar for myself and could find them...they are on the "List" of things to buy in Alaska. So hubby and I walk down the many shops, and into the second to last shop....when I find these mitts (black even)....on sale...even better.....I was happy...=) I get home and look more closely and they are made in Canada....=)

We waited for our tour to start with http://www.denalizipline.com/ we had an amazing time....lots of fun....we wanted to go again.....thank you to TK and Ian.

Aug 28th, was a beautiful day so we took a trip to Hatchers Pass....=)

Aug 31 2016-We hiked Bear Mountain, it was a beautiful fall day....and the blue berries were every where....almost finished.

Sept 1st - I went to Talkeetna with my friend and family visiting from Canada...and The Mountain was out....it was a beautiful day with these 3.  Thank you again for the invite....=)

Sept 2-3 2016 was the best Northern Lights show I had seen in some time.....=)

Aug 23 2016 End of Summer 2016

Well Summer in Alaska seems to be over, with what seems like forever......RAIN has arrived, and I'm not happy with it....we have grass mold and mushrooms growing every where and School has started for my daughter, Grade 9 and is in High School.  Go Mustangs Go!!!

I can't believe has fast the summer has gone by, we got an extension on my husbands posting so are here until the summer of 2017.  No crunch time to fit all the things we want to do and see before next year.  I will be making a list and checking it twice....lol Speaking of that Christmas is just around the corner.....Wanted to add that because I need to get thinking on what to get everyone and if I need to make things I need to start as soon as possible.   I will not be making hats, I have so many already made.

I got for Christmas last year my Silhouette Cameo and love it....I can make stickers, decals, t shirts, wood signs and anything really.  I have changed my RM Hats page on Facebook to Loveland Designs because I have been making alot more then crocheted hats.....=) here's the link: https://www.facebook.com/LovelandDesigns  hope it works....=)

Boy we have been doing alot since I last posted, can't believe the light is disappearing, but that means it's time to watch for Northern Lights....and with DD on the early to school schedule, I might just have to stay up.....some night.... I'm hoping for alot of light shows as this will be our last year/winter in Alaska.

So the rest of June we did some Paint balling, hiking and said some goodbyes to friends getting posted.  July 1st we celebrated Canada Day with our Canadian Families in Alaska with are BBQ party, what else......Happy Canada Day!! we got to meet a couple of new people that had arrived to Alaska for their posting.  We love it here, just wish it was a bit closer to family. May, June and July we had amazing weather, with some really warm days for here, with the rest of the country on fire from heat and dry conditions.  Most of July we did some hikes, picked wild blueberries and made muffins....here's some pictures:

July 30th I think was the Airshow, it happens every two years in Alaska, Mother Nature held off the rain for the weekend, so that made for a nice time.  Our friends from Canada came for a visit, so we went to the show.
Then on the Monday we took a train to South Denali, we stopped in Talkeetna then took a bus to our hotel.  here's some pictures of the trip:

Raspberry buns so yummy!! From the Roadhouse above.

We have had alot of rain the last while, we looked after the neighbor chickens/house, I had to get the eggs, my DD said...face it mom, I'm not a country girl......lol

Well I better go do something, Have a great Tuesday, until next time.....=)

June 24 2016-Bear

OMG I can't believe its June 24 2016- DD said yesterday, it feels like she's been out of school forever, and because her cousins are just finishing school now.  It's crazy.....how the school systems are so different with the school year.  I think being here in Alaska, alot of people are in Anchorage for the winter, and then move out to the villages to fish etc...I'm not sure about this and DD said it could be alot of other do farming.  Any ways she's been off for a month so far.

We have been busy hiking, and doing craft with my silhouette, visiting with our Canadian friends getting posted to a new location.

Wednesday June 22 2016 we did a hike to Hanging Valley in the South Fork area, it was a beautiful hot day, we had a tribe of Canadian's hike.....okay only 7 but our group seemed big.  We make it to the bridge, and continue in the direction of Hanging Valley...we are going up up....a never ending hill....and one of the girls, says Bear.  across the river, and up the bank...about a football field away or more....it was a Grizzle.
Then not only did we see 1 bear, there was a second Bear.....we saw two other people coming behind us, they didn't have a gun, and luck we saw the bears because this couple was going to go back that way......yikes.

We continued into the valley because we didn't want to run in to the path of them....we traveled on the trail and saw a lady and her kids and two dogs, that a spent the night in the valley ..... scary...we told them about the bears, and asked them if they had a gun.....nope....Alaska life!!! we are one with nature .... so to speak.

the valley to the left is our destination

this is with my zoom lens

kids in the middle just in case
Here's a picture of us going back to the valley....so happy there's a couple lakes back there.....I ran out of water, so I had to share....that's the good thing about going in a group....we can all share.

We ate our lunch at the first lake, then continued to the hanging valley after
lunch time

heading up to hanging valley

we did it....=)

We had a great day, until we got back to the car......KEYS where are your keys????????
OMG we lost the car keys, and she only had one set, out on the 13 mile, grizzle infested trail....lol

Thursday June 23 2016-Deja vous! same hike to find the keys.....we hoped some one had found the keys and left them hanging at the trial head...no luck! We made good time and didn't see bears....and found the keys....all the way back to the hill up to Hanging Valley.....I got a blister on my toe so stayed at the first lake with DD and the ladies back packs.
Hi Ho Hi Ho it's this darn trail we go....=)

It was another beautiful day in Gods country, with an amazing bunch of ladies....I'm taking it all in....one more year of hiking in this beautiful place ....=) #OPTOUTSIDE
