April 30 2013 ~ Bye Bye April

Hi all, I can't believe it's the last day of April, time seems to be flying by.  Kids are done school here in a month.  Our snow is melting but we still have snow on our grass.  The other day I saw a man raking his grass in Eagle River by my friends house. 
Our neighbor is still walking the lake daily, and we have a lot of over flow of water on the lake then it's freezing and making slushy mess.  I wonder when the lake ice will be gone.  We had a bit of snow today, so that seems crazy as well.

We had a busy weekend with shopping with the kids, and then my DD's hockey wind up party.  We had lots of fun.

Been making Owl masks to block out our light.  It's light now until about 11pm.  Summer is almost here.  I use my mask to sleep....=)

April 24 2013 ~ Mid Week

Hi there, so it's 10pm and it's just getting dark here in Alaska.  I got a notification from my Aurora FB page I love.  Saying that the Aurora season is coming to an end, because we will be having to much light in the nights....=(  but this site below shows where the Northern Lights maybe, so check it out maybe you can see them from your neck of the woods.

It was a grey day here today, yesterday we got an inch of snow but melted with the rain that fell.  Our snow is melting pretty fast and you can see grass showing up all over.  The lake is pretty much done, you can still walk out on it, but there's alot of over flow running on to the lake in areas, so it's pretty messy.  I see the neighbor and her dogs go out for a walk twice a day and also I see people ice fishing down the end of the lake.

Oh ya saw two Moose at the base today, but didn't have my camera....it would have been a beauty of a shot the back ground area they were at....oh well maybe next time...=)

I also saw a story on the news talking about the bears...they are awake.....so that's kind of scary.

Well I'm off to do a bit of crocheting and watch a show or two before it's time for bed, have a good night, bye for now

April 22 2013 ~ Monday

Good Morning to you all, it's another Monday for the books, we had a sick house all weekend long....I hate to be sick....headache, stuff nose, sore throat....the list goes on.  I took some Day Quill today so I feel better, but bring on the lemon tea with honey.

We did have nice enough weather to wash all vehicles, so nice to get the winter grime off.  Only to get the Break Up grime.  Snow is melting nicely, and aren't going on the lake just in case, but I do see people ice fishing.  I think I will pass don't wanted to have a cold water swim...Polar Bear swim I guess you would call it.

This passed weekend they had an event at Alyeska Ski Hill, I wanted to go to but just didn't feel up to it.  I wanted to take my camera down,  Here's a link to the event...looked like lots of fun.

April 18 2013 ~ Days flying by.....

Good Morning, seems the days are flying by, busy busy around here, and it's only going to get busier with the day light growing 5 minutes a day...we are finding it hard to go to sleep already and the sun sets about 9:45pm it's still lighter until 10:30pm ish, so I'm crocheting some eye masks for the kids, I was thinking about buying darker blinds or curtains but have decided to make these cute Owl eye masks....here's the link:

So I have been taking pictures for my 365 project, seems to be going well, only forget some times...=) haven't really been leaving the house to much out on Photo walks, still to much snow around and now with hungry bears waking, can't really go out walking by myself any ways.  But will work on a new photo every day.  it's the challenge of it all.  I'm thinking I may do some oil and water pictures today....haven't done that in a while.

It's cooler today and the sun is almost up, it hides behind the big mountain by our house....=)

April 13 2013 ~ An Amazing Day in Alaska

Hi everyone, it's Saturday already, almost at the half way point of April.  Yesterday was an exciting morning, about 8am, we had one Moose, two Moose and the the third Mama Moose...got pictures it was so amazing

I heard from a neighbor she hasn't seen 3 Moose at the lake in 30yrs, so I'm glad I got pictures because I may not see them again. 

Another Bucket List check....we may have to add a few item to the list.

It's been cold about -7F  but sunny yesterday and today, snow will melt fast I'm sure.

Tonight the Northern Lights; the Aurora Borealis are going to make a big light show ....they say, stayed up last night but didn't see anything.  So fingers crossed, I will post pictures if they show up and I can stay awake....=)

Well off to get a BBQ or in America they say Grill....need to have BBQ steak ....and burgers and chicken...and pork tenderloin....etc   can't wait!!

April 10 2013 ~ More Snow I wonder....is the question I'm asking myself...

Now that it's the 10th of April, I'm wondering will that be the end of our snow for this winter season.  It's Spring but you wouldn't know it, we have had 89 inches of snow to date and today on the TV they said that Cordova, Alaska has seen 3 times our snow.  Found this article about all there snow.

Today it was blue skis and some light snow falling but I'm not sure if it was being blown from the trees.  Lets hope, no matter how much I love the snow, I'm coming to the point, that I wont to have both cars on the road.  I'm getting Cabin fever, as my friend said the other day.  Snow is starting to get in the way.

I took this pictures yesterday it wasn't planned at first then turned into a heart.  The kids aren't using the lake for skating so I thought I should doodle so to speak....=)

April 8 2013 ~ Snowing Monday

Good Morning, it snowed all weekend, and yesterday after having dinner the sun did show up and set...it was a very nice night.  The kids played while I snow blew the driveway with the snow-blower, so happy we bought it back in Dec.

So it's snowing today again, saw this on the news last night.  Also saw that I'm not sure if it was the record or the average of snow but it was 71 inches and as of yesterday we are at 84 inches with this amount below....I guess our bike riding last week, ticked Mother Nature off and sent us this or she had to melt all the other snow to make room for this amount....=)

April 5 2013 ~ it's a new day

Good Morning, we have had warmer temperatures here into the 40's, so snow is melting, out driveway is like an ice rink, with the snow melting and then water running over driveway and then freezing in the night.  The weather for the weekend is 2-5 inches of snow, and cold temps again.  Spring Break Up is not here yet.  The kids aren't going skating on the lake any more, with all the snow melting it is making a mess of the ice.  And with Break up coming, it's just best to stay off.  I haven't heard anything mentioned on the news to watch for the lake etc, so maybe it's early I'm not sure.  This is all new for us.

Happy April Fools Day!! ~ April 1 2013

Hi everyone, it's a beautiful day in Alaska, the sun is out and it's warm compared to the weather we have been having.  The snow is melting and we are in a way looking forward to the "Break Up".  Yesterday we had a nice quiet Easter, it was a beautiful day as well, the kids spent time riding bikes, and using scooters.
Today I went for my first bike ride of the season, well two really my DS came with me to the bus stop the second time.  I wear gloves because it was a bit chilly but over all a beauty of a day.
