Oct 31 2012 ~Happy Halloween to all our family and friends!!

Can't believe it's Wednesday, let alone Halloween, and yet again can't believe it's the last day of Oct 2012...it's going by so fast, I guess we are keeping busy you could say.

So I didn't write yesterday because it snowed, we just got two inches, so after dropping DS off at the bus, I started on our drive way, 1 1/2 hours later I was done.  The snow was nice and light, and was hard to shovel because of this...I may have to get a bigger snow shovel...  but I definitely had a work out, I was so sweaty that I needed a shower before Zumba.

So after dropping off DD at the bus, I headed for my last day of feeding Kitty, her family was to be home that night.  So I did their driveway as well, it's not as big as ours so it took 1/2 an hour or so...then I headed for Zumba, I was a few seconds late, because of the snow, but I was already warmed up.

After Zumba, I headed for Play it again Sports to get myself some skates, I found a pair for $24.99, I had a pair before, but I think my feet grew after having the kids, so they didn't fit...I didn't get hockey skates, just some figure skates.   I didn't even think about this being the first snow fall, so I had to put the truck into 4x4 a few times at lights...it was also slippery on the on and off ramps....I slide a couple of times....no sure DH is going to drive his car even if it has snow tires....we will see what happens.

So today woke up to -10 c .... I have started saying Canadian instead of Celsius ... =)  so it was 18 F ...it's still that cold...it has been warming up, but I guess not today.  Oh ya yesterday DS and I cleared off an area on the lake, to have an ice rink.  it was really windy yesterday as well so alot of the snow got blown off the ice.  We didn't go skating, and tonight we are heading out trick or treating...so no skating again.  Well DS has hockey tonight, he didn't make the High School Team because of his grades, so he's going to get at that and hopefully he can play next year.

Today I made a Beef Stew click to get recipe, smells good.  I'm not a soup kind of girl, but I have to say here, because it's so cold, (I know wait for it) I find soup helps to warm me....so have to find recipes that the kids and I will like, and maybe DH will start liking more things that look like dog food.. =)

I also carved our pumpkin, it was frozen and told DD I would just clean it out, but it was mushy so I did a quick face and put it back out to freeze again.  I roasted the pumpkin seed, so the kids will like that, Auntie Leanne always does that, and they love sun flower seeds.

I took out some butter ((here I do all baking with butter)( I find the recipes work out that way) to make Auntie Leannes, sugar cookies, so then we can decorate them instead of doing the pumpkin.

Oct 29 2012 ~ Monday

Well I can't believe it's the last Monday of Oct 2012....we had a busy weekend....the Lake is ready to be skated on...Saturday I got up and headed to get my stitches out...the day before it was to busy, and to far to just run to the base.  After getting stitches out, stopping to feed our friends cat, and after lunch, the kids head out to ice skate on the lake, it's a bit scary still.  The neighbor has been checking the ice, but the other day he said it was 4 inches.  Both kids had hockey Saturday night, so we got home and watched tv....real exciting around here.
Sunday DD had hockey at 6am, so her and I went to practice and stopped to see the cat, home by 9am ish.  DS was sore and didn't want to go skating, I made eggs bennie for breakfast.    Later we went out on the ice (lake) again, wish I had skates, we had Me and the kids, Will and his girls, Annapha (sorry don't know how to spell) and then John and Carmen came out as well.  I measured the hole and it was 7 inches thick.

We got back in around 6:30pm and had dinner...and that was our weekend in a nut shell....=)

Today I have to go and get my stitches out...but I'm going to go after skating...just in case it takes a long time..will go see the cat before we go to skating....=)

Oh ya then DD's school is having a Halloween Carnival later in the evening....you know what I will just go to emergency on Saturday....I just have to much to do....=(  If I knew it was going to be a fast trip I would just head down...but I'm just not sure how long I will have to wait...I know it will be longer on Sat but that's okay .... I will leave the kids at home...=)

DH called and he's done flight 7 .....=) it's getting closer....=)

Oct 25 2012 ~ Thursday already

So another weekend is growing near, life is on the fly.... Busier then ever, with both kids hockey and all the extras it seems like we have lived here forever, and then the kids and I talked and its only been 2 1/2 months that's it.

So today it's 5:29am and we are up and at the arena for DS's hockey practice. I forgot my up close glasses, so will reread this later, when I get a chance, I might as well do something while waiting, and it's to early to crochet.... Well at least today, just didn't feel like it.

The Canadian girls/ladies have Zumba today, the second class so hopefully I know the route better, I can't really do two things at once when it comes to Zumba or aerobics... I'm more of a one person one at a time girl, but will continue with everyone.... =)

Tomorrow there is no school, we are going to go skating at the Mac arena with the Canadian kids, I also have to get out my stitches, I'm glad that DS's hockey is canceled, one less thing to do.....=)

DD and I made chocolate cupcakes last night for her class, Friday her school is having a Halloween carnival, her class is doing a cupcake cake walk, we are just going to decorate them white with spiders I bought, nothing exciting.....=)

I'm going to make some more tonight for the Canadian kids ice skating on Friday
Not sure how I'm going to decorate them yet, Veronica is excited to help...=)

Well it's 5:46am, the boy are ready for practice. Wonder how hard they will work today....=)

Oh ya my neighbor said that she saw a Moose cow and two babies the other day... Wonder if they came across the lake.... =) wish I had seen them and had my camera ready.

Oct 23rd 2012~Tuesday

Another cold day here in Alaska, I'm thinking my outside temperature gauge maybe a bit off being beside the house/ sliding door. May have to move it closer to the edge of the deck.

Sitting at DS's school waiting for him, another hockey practice. I have to him up and then pick up DD after I drop DS off. Not sure if they will have dry land training after hockey today.

The weather man said for the next week it's going to be nice, cold but nice all the same.

Well DS's bell just went, I will write more later, bye for now

Okay I'm at the arena, now I wait, I did bring my crochet, so will head to DD's school then crochet until she's done...there's a book fair going on so maybe she will want to look around.... We need to waste time any how...=)

So today I went to my first Zumba class, with the Canadian ladies, I need to improve my rhythm... But it wasn't that bad, so two days a week I will be doing Zumba with my friends ...=)

Okay so we are home again...we have Happy Happy Kids, when we got home from DS's hockey, they wanted all 3 of us to go down and jump on the dock, to see if the ice would break.  so they so badly wanted to go on.....so I saw the neighbor getting his plane all fixed up with his wheels.....floats are off....any how I saw he had foot prints on his ice by his shore...so I went over and asked him about the ice...etc....and he said the kids could go on his little shallow area until the rest of the lake is ready...he said maybe this weekend....He also said if you see a Moose crossing the lake....it's time....=) come on Moose...the neighbor also said there's small warm areas under the lake that you can't see so it could look frozen but it might not be....the kids were pretty happy with just the little area.....so i know where they will be when they get a chance.....

Oct 22 2012 ~ Monday again

So it's another Monday, hard to believe already.....I guess I did have a wasted day Saturday with the Klutzy me...and the hospital visit.

OMG today it's cold.....and it's going to be all week, no snow in site...but cold...drive to the bus stop today and will probably all week because we are looking after our friends cat and have to go over and see her in the morning.  Kitty that's her name was pretty friendly for a cat that hides....she didn't want me to leave I could tell.....=)

So my arm is healing...but I have some redness....I wonder if this is just healing or not....here's acouple pictures what do you think??

Oct 21 2012 ~ another sunny day...Sunday

Hi everyone, it's another cold, but sunny day here in Alaska, the temperature is great for the ice to freeze enough for us to skate on the lake....the kids ask every day.....I told them they can go on the ice when they see one of the local men out on the ice....and not until that time.  It sure does call your name.....come skate on me....looks so pretty with all our sunny days we have been having.  it's only 0 right now....so not that cold, it does feel colder that's for sure.

My arm is doing good, just a bit sore in a couple spots, I had to have a band-aid on my stitches because they get caught on my clothes.

Today we went over to feed our friends cat, they left for Hawaii....they are going to be cold when they come home.  10 days in Hawaii....would be heaven....one day we may go, it's a direct flight from Anchorage.

Today I finished up my organizing from yesterday, that I didn't get done after the little mishap.....still found some glass from the mirror....went every where.

Not sure if I mentioned it, but DH has done 5 flights now, so it seems to be moving along pretty quick...fingers crossed it continues.

As you can see another pretty boring day on the Home Front.....have a great day all  

Sunny Saturday ~ Oct 20 2012~ My Day

So the day starts out like any other day when the calendar is clear...of hockey and school...lets try and get these boxes put away....2 1/2 months and I still have boxes to un pack.  So I get DS to help me move a book shelf down stairs, and then I move the mirror, I was going to attach it to the wall but it didn't have a hook to hang, so I just centered it back on the mantel and the next thing I know, I'm getting hit on the head and my arm is bleeding.  call the kids, DD is asking "do you want me to call 911.....I say no....get dressed, and we will take a drive into the base and see if I need a couple of stitches.  We got to the base ER at about 12 noon, got to see the nurse pretty quick....but then the wait happened.....we hadn't eaten lunch so DS was hungry...I'm sure DD was but she has a bit more patience then DS, she's used to waiting for hockey practice etc....
I get called in thinking okay here we go....I sit waiting again, with the kids in the lobby....I'm sure bugging everyone.  So the Doctor comes in takes a look, you need a few stitches, we will clean it up and then get an xray on my arm.  So a nurse...I think that what she is....maybe doctor assistant....so she cleans, and freezes up my arm...oh ya forgot to say I went and got the kids.  So both aren't that great around needles, so DS is looking away and veronica has her hat on her head.....who does this sound like....it's not me...I got a tetnis needle, about 20 needles to numb and I can't remember.....then she cleaned it up, then talked to the doctor and had to get an xray of my arm to make sure no glass was in it.  then Jasmine stitched up two cuts on my arm, the doctor came in to check, then say that I was going to get some antibiotics and to come back if it get red, infected...etc...have to go back in 5-7 days to get stitches out.

The kids are starving by this point, so we stopped at McDonalds, DD won a breakfast sandwich and I won a quarter ponder with cheese...that DS ate as well as his Big Mac....I"m hungry he said....

We came home to the lake....what a view....it was all frozen....

Oct 19 2012 ~ Friday No School today~

It was nice to have a sleep in, still dark when I got up around 8:30am, beautiful and clear here, but cold -5 not sure what it dipped down to over night, but the whole lake has ice on it....exciting....=) I went down and took some pictures.  I stood on the deck/small wharf, and jumped a bit and you could hear the ice cracking, don't want that to happen ever.  but we are getting excited.....=)

Today DD and I are thinking about going to the Zoo, a couple of Canadian ladies are going with their kids, because there's no school.  it's going to be cold, but can't wait to take pictures at the Zoo....then I can take it off our Alaska Bucket List....well may have to go back if it's really good....maybe with lots of snow.....we will see.  Stay tuned for the pictures.

Well better get DD up....maybe she's reading, she's turning into a little book worm....=) have a great Friday everyone...

Thursday Oct 18 2012 ~ COLD ~

Hi everyone,

So this am it was -5 outside....my phone says it's -2 right now and its 11:29am....we are in for some cold days ahead, the weatherman is calling for clear skies...which means cold weather.

Anchorage -2 clear and sunny
Comox  9 with rain
Victoria 12 with sun and rain mixed
Fort Mcmurray 8 sunny
Oklahoma City 19 cloudy

these are from my phone...boy seems to be a difference...some where.... =) just kidding, but when DH comes home for Christmas he's going to be cold....be warned....

So today DD talked about skating to the bus stop....so I guess she's feeling the cold finally, so after dropping her off, I came home and got my camera and headed to the back yard...here acouple of pictures I took.

So I have been drinking lots of Tea, trying to stay warm, I'm thinking I may just have to move to just boiling water like my Nan drinks. I got both kids school pictures back....they are getting so big it's crazy, how time just passes by.

I just had lunch, a big hot bowl of Asparagus soup (no I didn't make it) but it was great all the same.  I'm not one for soup but with the cold temperatures rolling in....I may have to stock up on soup.

Well off to have a shower, it's another day of Mom's taxi .... have a great day  =)

Oct 17 th- another Wednesday

Good morning everyone!!! Up early to bring DS to hockey. Didn't have that great of a sleep, because I didn't want to sleep in... If DS misses practice he doesn't get to play or some thing to those affects. It's 5:38am right now. 4:30am the alarm went off..... God it's early, an hour earlier then normal....oh well get up and get it over....=) I like that part of it...
It's another cool morning, lots of stars out.... All our snow is gone for now, but the mountains sure look pretty white with snow.
The boys are all coming out, all the kids are together so there are a lot of them on the ice right now and DS isn't one of them... Oh ya there he comes....
You know the movie finding Nemo ... The sea gull part... Mine mine mine ... Just heard that with all the boys and the pucks....

Well bye for now, wish I had crochet and my tea I left on the counter....

Oct 16 2012 ~ busy bee at home today.... =)

Another day of waking up to snow...nothing much more then a skiff again....but the mountain is solid white now at the top....so I'm sure it's close to the never ending winter soon.  I have to dig out my warmer gloves...my fingers are really cold after the walk to the bus and back...brrrr  I up graded from my thin $1 gloves to a pair I wear today...and well lets just say I like mittens better and will have to get warmer gloves if my tinkle box doesn't have them... not looking forward to even colder weather.  Carlisle your going to freeze when you get home......=)

So just realized  I missed morning coffee with the girls...busy busy around here, trying to figure out what to have for dinner tonight.  Crockpot is on with Chicken cooking, will make some rice and salad later.  I also made a brownie (don't ask for recipe because it was from a box) and I also made Toffee Bar (it's a choc chip cookie).  It's so easy and you can make it with little ingredients.  I have made this recipe for years...yummy

Toffee Bar- recipe below

Brownies-from a box

Crock pot chicken - just stuff thrown together...no recipe

Toffee Bar

1 cup Hard Margarine or Butter
1 cup packed Brown Sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups Flour
1 cup Choc Chips ( I like mini ones best)

Cream butter and brown sugar, add Vanilla and then flour, blend together all with the mixer....will be slightly crumbly. Mix in Choc Chips stir with a spoon.

Line a cookies sheet (15 x 10) with tin foil.  Dump cookie batter into cookie sheet and spread evenly all over the pan.  then press down with hand to make a big cookie...making sure to be out to the edge.

Bake at 350 for 15 to 20 min or until golden brown.

*make sure to cut just after bringing out of oven.  Cool and enjoy. (this recipe is from back in my teen years, not sure of the book)
Cookie hardens well cooling, note you can't just eat one.... =)

Oh ya, I have done a load of laundry as well, off to have a shower and do some crocheting.  Have a great day everyone....=)

Oct 15 2012 ~ Snowy Monday ~

Good morning everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend. We didn't do to much it was a rest weekend...with DD's hockey Sat and Sun.

Today walking to the school bus, it was snowing, it's like snow pellets today....the mountain is all socked in and it's lightly snowing.

Okay so i really should save this and rotate...but it makes for something interesting on my page today....after all it's just another Manic Monday....=)

Been busy crocheting some more hats...will update RM Hats when I'm finished them....=)

Okay so it's 5:10pm, DS had his first hockey practice for the school team, and he was dressed and on the ice, and he forgot his permission slip in the truck/back pack...and I left...he didn't know my cell number, so he ran laps at the arena and filled water bottles....they ended up cancelling dry land today, so hopefully tomorrow he will get on the ice. Also we dropped off his skates at the arena for a sharpening...we will see how that goes....fingers crossed.

After watching the kids on the ice, DS decided to have pasta for dinner to help tomorrow with dry land and ice conditioning.

oh ya it stopped snowing mid day....calling for more snow tonight but just a skiff or so....

Oct 14 2012 ~ Sunday ~

Good Morning to you all...thanks for stopping by....would you like a cup of Tea or Hot choc?  The kettle is on....

So yesterday we got our 2nd snow, mind you now looking out it was just a skiff of snow, but it sure looks pretty.  Yesterday DD had hockey at our home Ice Rink, and it looked like it was going to snow forever in town, but as we got closer to our house we could see blue sky, so they may have got more snow then us.  Oh ya saw my first Moose, he was at the Arena, wish I had brought my big camera...so I could zoom in and take a better shot of him...my camera phone, in the snow just wouldn't zoom in enough.  I think the Moose is living close to the Arena so maybe I will get another chance to take his picture, or maybe I will see more around here this Winter.

So today it's looking like not to bad of a Sunday, Veronica has hockey practice tonight, and then next week or the next two weeks, Mom's taxi will be in full swing....with High School Hockey starting and then both kids playing at Mustang Hockey as well.  I just added DD's games to the calendar and it's filling up....crazy....but will make time fly.

Tonight on TV we have Revenge, 666 Park Avenue and the Amazing Race 21...looks like a great night at the home front.

Oct 12 2012~ well it's 12:39am on Oct 13 ~ Mother's Natures Light Show

So just wanted to say thank you to a neighbor across the lake that sent me a text saying the Light's are out.....thinking she had now power I got DS to go and look across the lake....well he yells mom get your camera...and that was at 10:06pm...and they are still dancing now...they are on and off, but it's the most amazing show I have seen....like fireworks that never end...here's a link to some pictures I have been taking ....
