Sept 19 2012 ~ Wednesday

Yesterday went for coffee (well I had Hot Choc) with the Can girls....8 of us showed up...it was nice to see familiar faces...it's weird to be a the store and not know any one.  After coffee go a call to go to Wasilla with a friend....so Christina and I went to Red Robin for lunch then did a bit of shopping.   It was windy....on the way home it felt like we flew....=)  We had another High wind advisory for last night....Chris said when she got home her power was out., ours stayed on this time.  Got a call from DD's school reminding us about Pirate Day at school, so we had to find our Halloween costumes...so the hunt was on, found it all...=)

Today woke up to rain again...it's feeling like a fall day in BC.  I made some Choc Chip cookies, and they turned out delicious ... butter is the way to bake here.....until I find the right hard margarine, to use that isn't to soft.

Weird story alert:  So I have been looking for "Mums the plants"

Taxonomy  of Chrysanthemum Flowers:

Although formerly referred to as Dendranthema, plant taxonomy now classifies chrysanthemums under the genus, Chrysanthemum. This is a case where the scientific plant name has become a commonly used name (in such instances I do not capitalize). Other common names for these colorful fall characters are based on the shortened version ("mums") of the genus name. Thus one will hear "hardy mums," the focus of this article, versus the less hardy "florist mums."
You know how they are everywhere in BC this time of year.  So I have been on the look out for them, today I stopped at a nursery to see if they had them...and the guy there said they don't really have them in Alaska, they never really caught on here.....but he said he saw some at Fred Meyer, I have looked there before outside....but couldn't find them.  Then today I found them by the indoor plants and they are not that great of a deal, but it was buy one get the other 1/2 off so I picked up two...just to make it feel a bit more homey around here, not sure how long they will last but now I know for next year.....weird....Plants and things I have to get used to.....

Okay off to pick up DD at the bus stop, then dinner and DS's hockey tonight....have a great pirate day matey!!
